MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica discussed the West’s efforts to limit the global influence of Russian culture in an interview with TASS, calling these attempts unsuccessful.
“The West has failed because it operates under a system and concept where culture plays a state role. Without the state, culture cannot confront the market today,” Kusturica said, emphasizing that Russian artists, directors, and writers receive significant support from the government.
Kusturica also argued that Western liberalism, with its focus on minimizing state interference, has not withstood the test of time, unlike Russia’s approach. “We can see that liberalism, with its constant debate over the extent of state intervention in people’s lives, has failed,” the director stated. He added that economic models in countries like China are proving more successful when compared to the United States.
Kusturica, a Yugoslav and Serbian director and actor, has won numerous prestigious awards, including two Palme d’Ors at the Cannes Film Festival.
